An erection lasting more than 4 hours requires emergency care, whether or not it is painful. Priapism lasting longer than 6 hours can result in penile tissue damage and permanent loss of potency. Use Levitra with caution in men with conditions that may predispose them to priapism: sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, leukemia, or penile deformity such as angulation, cavernosal fibrosis, or Peyronie disease.

Sublingual nitroglycerin 0.4 mg taken 1 hour after vardenafil 20 mg showed potentiated blood-pressure drops. The same potentiation was seen when the nitrate was taken 4 hours after vardenafil 20 mg. Heart-rate increases were seen at 1, 4, and 8 hours. Those effects were not seen when vardenafil 20 mg was taken 24 hours before the nitrate.
