0150 mg as needed, 30 minutes to 4 hours before activity
As-needed Viagra for ED starts at 50 mg taken about one hour before sexual activity. Viagra may be taken from 30 minutes to 4 hours before sexual activity. The as-needed dose may be 100 mg based on individual efficacy and tolerability. A 25 mg as-needed tablet may be used when a lower dose is needed. In most patients the maximum dosing frequency is once per day.
02A high-fat meal delays the peak by an hour
A high-fat meal delayed the mean Tmax of sildenafil by 60 minutes. Mean Cmax was reduced 29 percent after that meal. Viagra may be taken with or without food. In the fasted state, maximum plasma concentrations arrive between 30 and 120 minutes. The median Tmax in the fasted state is 60 minutes.
03When a nitrate can be given after Viagra
The safe time interval between Viagra and organic nitrate administration is unknown. Plasma levels of sildenafil at 24 hours post dose are about 2 ng/mL compared to approximately 440 ng/mL at peak after 100 mg in healthy volunteers. In the event of an angina attack after Viagra, nitrates should still not be administered. If nitrates are deemed medically necessary in a life-threatening situation, at least 24 hours should have elapsed.
04An erection lasting more than 4 hours
An erection lasting more than 4 hours requires emergency care, whether or not it is painful. Priapism lasting longer than 6 hours can result in penile tissue damage and permanent loss of potency. Use Viagra with caution in men with conditions that may predispose them to priapism: sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, leukemia, or penile deformity such as angulation, cavernosal fibrosis, or Peyronie disease.

05Myocardial infarction in the prior 6 months
Viagra was not administered to men with myocardial infarction, stroke, or a life-threatening arrhythmia within the last 6 months in clinical trials. Until further information is available, Viagra is not recommended in that group. The same not-recommended list includes resting blood pressure less than 90/50 mm Hg, blood pressure greater than 170/110 mm Hg, heart failure, and coronary disease that produces unstable angina.
